(reliefcat.org) ReliefCat, which Progressiventures helped to found, is creating organized and endowed teams of camp educators and stockpiles of donated equipment and curricula that will be kept on call for timely transportation to the sites of major disasters and temporary refugee sites. Once on site, ReliefCat counselors will set up a secure location and begin offering immediate care, recreation and learning opportunities (creating an environment akin to a Summer Day Camp type program) to serve the effected children during the day.
These services will provide safe harbor and counseling for children during a traumatic moment in their lives. Recent studies indicate this kind of activity can be an important factor in preventing post traumatic stress if offered early enough during the post disaster or refugee experience.
But ReliefCat programs also provide critical "space to operate" and peace of mind for parents while they tend to the hard work of family recovery immediately following the outbreak of war, natural disaster, or other sudden community crises. Going through these emotional struggles during the day out of sight and without the added concern of children can also help communities recover more quickly with fewer long term effects.
Partners for ReliefCat include industry associations, professional sports leagues, recreation equipment manufacturers and global NGOs.
